Colorado State University offers a four-year degree program for students that are interested in developing a broad understanding of the equine. Students will learn all aspects of the equine industry. The program also prepares students for graduate school and to develop their skills as professionals in the industry.
The equine science program is considered to be one of the most comprehensive equine programs in the United States. They have an outstanding program that focuses on equine business, recreation and production aspects. Students will have numerous career opportunities to explore in the area of equine breeding farms and other equine businesses.
Programs for students include equine nutrition, orthopedic program, equine reproduction and the farrier program.
The degree is based in the agricultural sciences department of Colorado State University. They have an excellent equine center where students are able to not only learn about the care and management of horses but the breeding aspects as well. The facility was a $5.2 million dollar project featuring a football field-sized indoor arena with seating for 2,000 spectators as well concession stands, ticket booths, a classroom complex, sheds, paddocks, round pens and an outdoor arena. The center also features an equine reproduction laboratory where students are involved with research in mare and stallion management, artificial insemination, cooled and frozen semen, hormonal therapy and embryo transfer and manipulation.
The facility is located at the base of the foothills in beautiful Rocky Mountain National Park, Lory State Park and Roosevelt National Forrest. Students will be able to enjoy miles of trails as well as packing and outfitting classes. The facility also hosts rodeos, dressage competitions, polo matches, judging contests, livestock shows and clinics.
