It's Almost Winter Time!!
The winter season is coming upon us quickly. The horses have begun to grow winter coats and my palomino is not as shiny as he usually is. Now is the time to make any barn improvements that are required to make it through the winter. This is also a good time to make sure everyone gets a visit from the farrier before it gets too chilly to stand outside and hold horses!
For those of you who blanket your horses, it time to pull them out of the closet or winter storage. The laundromat is great place to wash them and get them ready. Make sure all the clasps, hooks and straps are ready to go for another winter.
This is also the time to get ready for mouse patrol. They will be moving in for bites of feed in your tack room and they often like to make a cozy bed out of your saddle pads and wraps.
If you are like me and hate breaking ice, check out your local feed store for water trough heaters. They keep the water warm enough to drink and will ensure your horses won't dehydrate and colic from lack of fluids. If you have automatic waterers, be sure to check your heating elements for shorts and loose wires.
It's that time of the year again, have a safe and happy winter!
