Every year millions of Americans make New Year's Resolutions. Why not make them for our horses? Take a moment to consider what goals you would like to achieve with your horse this year. Perhaps it is making it to a local schooling show that you have always wanted to go to or hitting the trails a little more often. There are tons of ideas that we can use to make New Year's Resolutions for our horses.
This year, I vow to spend a little more time with my gelding. He is the love of my life, but work has kept me so busy. I am going to devote at least two days a week to him. Even if the weather is wet, which is rare around here but has been happening frequently, I will do something with him whether it is a good brushing or cleaning my saddles. Anything to get out of the office more and spend quality time with him and my beloved barn cats.
This is a new year and a great opportunity to make a list of things that you would like your horse to achieve this year. Here are just a few ideas:
More quality time
More trail rides
Nailing those show patterns quicker
Getting that flying lead change right
Learning a new class
Making it to a local show or rodeo
Participating in a clinic
Joining a horseback riding club
Logging your riding hours
Just think about what you enjoy with your horse and what you want to achieve and start checking them off this year!
