SE Texas coast - Corpus Christi area
I am in Texas too. I have 3 horses right now...a 23 yr old grey Arabian mare, Toffah, a 20-something black TWH gelding Romeo and a 19 yr old Dun Paint mare, Dixie...We ride the trails and sand dunes around here and do local parades.
Due to saddlefitting problems I am looking in to going treeless. I have been riding with a bareback pad til I can afford a saddle, and it has improved my riding skills and made my horses much happier. At 58 years old, I am feeling like a teenager again.
My 4th horse Sadie, a palomino QH mare in her late 20's died about a month ago. She was my first horse. She had health problems, so I am glad she is no longer in pain, but I miss her terribly. I used to ride her bareback when she was sound and we had a ball. She was my soulmate.
I am trying to connect with my other horses, and right now Romeo, the TWH, is trying to fill Sadie's boots. He is very affectionate and gentle, like Sadie was, but a tad spooky. I think he doesn't see too well.
Toffah and Dixie are chowhounds and are only interested if food is involved. But they have great personalities and give me a lot of joy. Toffah, the Arab, is the escape artist, intelligent and the most versatile horse I have ever ridden. Dixie has great potential as a trick trained horse. She is very clever and bright and sensitive, but has been abused and/or injured and is tough to halter.
