I had a mare like that once, she would wander all over the path. At first I couldn't figure out why. Then I was out with a friend and riding and she kept veering over towards them and I would have to pull her back. Then the light bulb went off . As I was out riding I would be looking around or over at my friend talking. This would shift my body weight just slightly causing her to change direction (wander). Then I started experimenting. I would lean or shift less to see how much it would take. Well to make a long story short all I had to do was turn my head and look in that direction and she would change the direction we were going.
