Respecting you and liking you kind of go hand in hand. Gain your horses respect and they stop doing a lot of undesirable behaviors, we interpret this as "liking" us because they are behaving. The more we gain our horses respect the more they trust us and start "behaving". Start out by doing lots of ground work with him. Keep him out of your personal space, he can't nip you from 3 - 4 feet away. Once you start gaining his respect the nipping should stop.
