It sounds like he was a spoiled horse with his previous owner and had no respect for them. You do need to gain respect from him and not worry so much about him liking you. He needs to know (like the previous post stated) what personal space is and that he is not allowed in yours unless invited. If he does invade your space let him run into your hand, elbow, so to speak. It takes time but your the one in charge not him. Good Luck
