I would check with some local equine vets and see if you could ride along (if they don't have a clinic) or visit a hospital and see if they would be willing to show you some horses eyes, and let you look through and opthalmiscope. Also see if they have any books that you could look through. They should have a fairly good library of books or can give you a list that would give you the best infromation possible.
