Hi! Just joined the forum, so now I'll tell you a bit about myself. I'm 26, and I live in Indianapolis, Indiana. I was not able to be around horses until a few years ago because I grew up in the city. Now, however, I am utterly besotted w/my gelding and can't stand to go more than a few days w/out seeing him. I board him at a friends house. He is a 2 yr old Kentucky Mountain Horse named Legend's Captain Jack. I've had him since he was a month old, and was there w/in minutes of his birth(He was still in the sac). I am very good friends w/the woman that owned his parents, and when she called me to come see it was love at first sight. I apprenticed w/the owner of his parents(she trains, breeds, and shows) and have trained Jackson myself. I also have helped start several of her young horses under saddle, and I enjoy it almost as much as riding for pleasure. I've done a little showing, and Jack has taken home ribbons every time.(Conformation, he's not old enough to ride yet.) I have a pretty bad back, so I ride gaited horses and I must say it's a lot more pleasant than jarring the teeth out of my head on a trotter! I know a lot of people have preconceived notions about gaited horses, but most if not all of these notions are unfounded. Yes, they can DEFINITELY run once they are good and set in their gate! I've had a few speedy hacks on gaited horses.lol
