Quiet Gentleman
I guess my stallion is the exception to the rule. He is quiet in every aspect and is not agressive towards mares. We have people come visit and he is the first horse everyone plays with. I have caught visitor's kids climbing all over him out in the pasture (the kids were somewhat ADHD and were not controllable.) Thankfully my stallion just enjoyed the attention. I did train him to stand still while I crawlled between his legs and under him though (I do that with all the horses I train..you never know when you might accidentally end up under neath and if they aren't afraid of you being under there, I've found they stand still and wait for you to get out.) At any rate, even with the mares, my stallion is not agressive. We had another old breeder down the road call one year and ask to use my stallion because his (an uncle to mine on the sire's side) had ravaged two mares badly and did not breed them. So we sent ours over as a professional favor and after the all clearn that the mares had not been bred by the previous stallion, he took care of them. I've had more trouble with mares beating up my stallion! LOL hes a lover not a fighter. (We mainly do pasture breeding and mares tend to get nasty sometimes when left alone)
we breed old Foundation QH's and Ihave found many FQH breeders have the same response with their stallions, they are easy to handle. I expect that hotter blooded breeds are more difficult to breed but I firmly believe that ANY stallion can be gentle if trained properly.
I loved the story about the young stallion falling over in the mud and then going to his stall to pout. They do have their pride don't they?
