for me, english riding is harder only bacause my hips, knees, and back re in very bad shape and i need the extra support of a western saddle if i want to ride for more than 20 min

i ride both english and western as well as teach both....when teaching, i teach all my students to ride bareback. in my opinion, if they can ride bareback, they can ride in anything
