Default Random question...

Ok so everyone knows when you leave the barn, you always leave with the black gunk caked under your nails, which usually is not a big deal b/c you go home and shower after a hot sweaty day with the horses. But, what do you do about the gunk if you ride/care for horses in the morning? I have a nail file but thats a little hard to do driving too fast to work/school because im already late.

What are some tricks you guys have found has worked?

Ever tried a pair of leather gloves? Driving gloves not work gloves.

After a while the gunk comes back! Turn them inside out and wash / brush the heck out of them - you a good for some time again.

By the way - driving and cleaning your fingernails is worse than a cell.

wolfgang....

gloves arnt a bad idea but knowing myself, i'd have them for a week before they became misplaced in the Black Hole of horse stuff, clothes and books that is my back seat. Plus, gloves in the summer...ick.

You are right about cleaning the nails, thats why im looking for other solutions.

you could just cut your fingernails short, that is what i had to do so i was able to throw on the wheel for my ceramics class, and it seems to work well for keeping them clean. though they wont be the best looking nails in the world, the stay looking decent without having to clean them. you could also just paint your nails.

Texas...

mine are pretty short but even then i get crud built up between the nail and the skin. Its actually a little easier to clean out if they are a little longer... doesn't sound right i know. I think its cuz if my nails are longer it doesn't get backed in there so tightly.
