Default Gaining skill as a rider.

I think I already know this but being new to the wonderful world of horses I am going to ask any way. What is the quickest way to gain skill and knowledge riding and just about horses in general??

Well you are right, you probably do already know the answer... ride, baby ride!! Preferably under the tutelage of someone experienced. Also, ride as many different horses as you can, and experiment with different disciplines. I learned english first, how to jump and sit the trot and keep elastic contact with the reins, then switched to western as I got, ahhuughh, a little older. You will learn that good riding and good horsemanship transcend all disciplines. A good rider can make a poor horse look like a million bucks, and a poor rider can make a good horse throw a fit.
When you come across a horse you just don't like, remember, it's the tough ones that teach you the most. Best of luck, enjoy your journey!

Ditto! Either find someone that is willing to teach you while you work off lessons or find a trainer and take lessons from them. While it's true just riding will improve your skills, we can only take it so far ourselves. We can't see how we look when we ride, someone that will point out your flaws and give tips on how to correct them is the best way to go IMO
