Horse Meat - Ramsay
Did anyone hear about the Chef Gordon Ramsay? I guess he is quite the character and now he is trying to get britians to eat horse meat?
I have never tried it and don't plan to it is just one of those things. But if in a culture were it was "traditional" and accepted and it was put in front of me I don't know if I would offend the host and not eat it.
I would not kill a horse to eat it unless it was my life or the horse. With that said after hearing about this guy claiming it is the most delicate meat, savory and a little gamey.
But then I read it is the worst meat every, Tough and bitter. So my question is has anyone eaten it? And why?
Just a question.

No, I have never eaten horse. And, I cannot imagine ever eating horse.
I do have to remember, though, that every culture has what is "acceptable" as far as animals to eat. Some cultures don't eat cows for various reasons, and cannot IMAGINE eating a cow! Some cultures eat dog, too.
We here in the U.S. keep our animals as pets and develop a strong attachment. Thus, why we cannot imagine eating horse.
I tasted bison for the first time the other day. It actually wasnt' bad, but I had to make myself NOT think of what it was.

Nope, never have and I don't think that I ever would. Correction, if I was visiting in some other country and I was offered I probably would (thought I would not be happy about it) so I did not offend anyone.

horse meat
Back in the forties when times were really tough for very many people, some including my father, would buy horse meat. It was cheap, very good and one of the best meats humans can eat. It is like deer, chicken and rabbit, in that the fat does not marblize into the muscle. It is by far better than cow or pig for your health. Horse meat is sold a lot in many countries of Europe. It it were legal in this country it would be my meat of choice. Just as long as I never looked the horse in the eye of course while it was living.
My objection to horse slaughter is the inhumane way they are treated in hauling, housing and method of killing.

I can't say as I've ever tried it and I can honestly say that it would be a big hurdle to get over, in order to be able to eat horse meat. I think it's easier in other countries, where one is raised thinking of the horse more as a livestock animal. Growing up around farm animals, as I did, it didn't take long for me to realize that every fall the cattle and the pigs would disappear and we would have great-tasting steaks for the next year. I'm sure that, in other countries, it's the same basic principal with horses, dogs, cats, etc.
