Default Pregnant Mares

What does everyone think about riding last tri-mester mares? Well pregnant mares in general?

I have always rode until the last couple weeks. After that I felt bad. I know alot of people that ride until the last couple days. Flat and easy of coarse but it seems that it makes the foaling a lot easier...

Asking because I just got ripped by someone who "new it all" and they said it could cause issues for the mare? I have never heard or experienced of any trouble.

Just want to make sure before I ride by and give "Mr Whisperer" a rasberry

I was told that it was fine to ride my mares in the last trimester of pregnancy. I did take them for nice, leisurely rides a couple of times a week and did not experience any problems whatsoever.

You do what is best for your mare. If she is used to being ridden lightly then do so. Exercise is good for a pregnant mare as long as she is used to it. I personally don't do anything with them the first 45 days after being confirmed pregnant, this is the time my vet recommends to let them be, no riding, vaccinations, or deworming. Increasing stress during this time can result in the mare reabsorbing the embryo. But once the 45 days is up back to her regular job. Then I don't ride the last month either. I just let them be and do their own thing. To each there own the saying goes. If you have concerns you can also speak with your vet. Mine tells me to use her until I think she is uncomfortable and with mine that is normally that last month. So ride by and give him a "raspberry"

Honestly, the exercise never hurt one of my mares but I tend to keep it to a light ride. Just enough to let them get out and get some exercise and to make sure they are still comfortable with me through out the pregnancy and delivery. My mom would still barrel race with hers, and never had any problems. If you are really concerned about it, talk to your vet, but I am willing to bet any decent vet will tell you that you are doing just fine and the horse will let you know if she ain't up to it.
