Default Helmets Anyone?

When you ride, do you wear a helmet?

I will go first and say yes!
I didn't always, but having children and using caution with them, I figured I should make a good example by wearing one. Plus, there is always the worry of "Who will take care of the kids if something happens to me?"
We use safety first here.

Mmm, tried to insert a poll and not sure if that will work.
But respond anyway.

I have never worn a helmet, but now that I am a mother of 2 boys who are starting to ride. I find myself wanting to lead by example, like you. I figure if I am going to make them wear helmets than I should probably wear one myself. The good thing her is that right now it is too hot to ride. I am in the process of trying to find a helmet that I like and is not terribly hot to wear. I am looking at troxel's sierra since it is a little more western looking and is not black. The ground seems harder and the body just don't heal as well as you get older.

Default Helmets

I do not wear a helmet and probably never will. With certain events that have happened in my life I am a very firm believer that if it is your time, there is nothing that you can do to prevent it.....

and it looks like your poll is working. when I selected NO....it presented the current stats.

Ahh, I am happy that the poll worked.

My helmet is more western styled, it is also a Troxel.
Blue in color.

Amazing how one person likes one thing and someone likes another-just like sneakers.

I can verify for a fact that we just don't bounce back as quickly as we once did.
It has become automatic for me to grab mine.

But I certainly don't judge anyone for not wearing one.

none for me thanks. i really don't know why, but i just can't seem to bring myself to wear one. i know i need to lead by example, espesially since i have a baby boy on the way. i know i'll do my best to make him wear one, at least till he's old enough to make a decision about it for himself at least. where i ride pretty often there is a tree with a little white cross at the base of it on one particular trail. a lady was killed there being thrown from her horse. i think about it every time i pass that tree. some reason i still can't bring myself to wear the silly things. male ego maybe.

I never wear one either. I've had the same horse for 8 years and have no desire to test drive others. I am very confident that after hundreds and hundreds of hours trail riding alone with my horse, riding busy roads daylight as well as night time, parades, trail riding WITH ATV's, all sorts of wild life encounters~ I am very confident there's not a heck of a lot that would cause my horse to lose it and freak. Now if I was forced to find another mount I would probably dust off the helmet. I'm not a kid anymore and don't heal as fast as I once did.

Default I wear one

I wear my helmet.. my mare is pretty darn calm.... but I am older (65 soon) and like someone said I dont bounce. I just bought a new one as my older one is falling apart... cause I toss it around... lol
My friend was just tossed by her horse. got bit by deer flys and he spun her off and she hit her head... ( 2 sundays ago) and she got a concussion even with her helmet on.. but she would be dead if she did not have it on.... that is why her and I say we will not whine about wearing them any more........
MizSaige
p.s. her hubby wants her to get a motorcycle helmet lol lol
wouldent that look cute....

Default I should

I don't wear one, My wife wears when she is jumping and makes all her kids wear one. I guess it is like the biker thing for me, it just doesn't feel as free. Now if I was going to do something crazy like try and break a baby or something I would! and a bull riding vest, and a lacros helment and hockey shin guards!

Can anyone say bubble wrap! Pain didn't bother to much but now it just likes to stick around to long!

Ok, well this is going to sound odd.....

I am a biker as well and wear a helmet then. But I cant stand wearing a helmet when I am on one of my horses. It just ain't natural to me. I ride my horse to get back to nature and I cant enjoy nature with one of those cotton-picking things on. On my motorcycle, I am riding just for the ride and i cant ride either anymore if I get hit by a car. Just my two cent opinion!

Having owned an equestrian store learned the importance of helmet safety. If we wanted to set an example for our customers we also learned to wear a helmet when riding. Now it is a part of our equipment and it goes on before the bridle.
