Default Scaz

Scaz (pronounced Saz) is a gelding that I fell head-over-heels in love with. I don't know what it is about him- he isn't particularly pretty- but I just love him. He is a green horse at age 6. He's a quarter horse, never been under saddle, no groundwork training. He is a complete doll, though. He's not extremely expensive untrained, and my mom says that if I really want him, I should work on training him for money to pay for him. I don't know if that will be enough, but my mom says she'd be able to force in about $1,000 if I really needed another horse. XD I don't need him, but you know how it is. I think he'd be great for endurance and barrel racing, even horse back riding lessons! Now, you may think I'm nuts, but he seems to be great with children, and once he's trained and been worked with (I mean once he's completely bombproof, when and if), it's a possibility. Thoughts?

How much training experience do you have? Does he tie, bathe, clip, load, etc...?

At six, he should be "reasonably" chilled out, but all horses are different and a 35 yr old can still bronc w/the best if they feel the need, lol.

Why hasn't he been trained? A horse left to their own devices for that long, depending on what type of human interaction they've had, sometimes can be a right hand full when it finally comes to training.

Was he used as a halter horse? I am not a Quarter Horse girl, but I have a good friend that trains reiners and he said "Halter" Quarters aren't built to be ridden anymore due to various conformation issues.

The person that owns him, is this a breeder?

Well geez, I've owned a handful of halter horses who made great riding horses...I suppose it's all in the meaning of what type/discipline of riding.

Is he registered, Percheron? Any conformation problems, or do you know why they are selling? The horse market is not as great as it used to be, in fact I get offers for free horses that I don't even have room for. There are a ton of good riding horses out there that are more than reasonably priced...but then again- if we're women, everyone will just have to understand when we find "One-of-those-special" horses lol. Haha!

It's really up to you. If you're looking for a horse to train under saddle it sounds like you've found one. If you are looking to save money, or buy a horse that has already been trained under saddle, there are lots out there.
