Default How much to castrate?

Hey all,

I am just interested in seeing how varied the prices of gelding a youngster are across the country?

I *may* be buying a foal next week with a view to bring him down December - February, not quite sure yet.

Ive been quoted locally £160 - 180. Thats including all meds for a routine, no probs castration.

Also, thoughts on age of having him gelded would be much appreciated, so many conflicting views I know!

you can't stop the waves...but you can learn to surf

If you are castrating for sure the younger the better. They heal quicker, there is less swelling and it is an easier proceedure (Can't tell you how many little guys I have put under to make them great geldings). I have assisted with castration as early as 4 months to as old as 20 years. Those little ones just do better. If he is a routine castration for where I am you are looking at about $300-350 including drugs, outcall, etc.
If you have a crypted orchid you are looking at a minimum of $1500 and it can go up from there.

Hope this helps

My local vet charges around $50-$65 to do everything. Drug 'em, remove the stud parts...clean and sew it up, and give him tetanus shots.

My brother does it for free. He castrates equines and canines... He's got the tools...I've got the shots...
