There are great family horse in any breed. Ex lesson horses are great faimily horses because they are willling to put up with just about anything. Most would say a horse of quarter type breeding or stock type horses which include quarter horses, Paint horses, and Appy horses. But there are good horses in all breeds. I have a 30 year old 1/2 arab that is the best horse that I have owned in a long time. So it really just depends on the horse and your family as to which is best suited for the family.

I agree with P8nt Crazy. Alot just depends on the horse itself!

They're right, you're just going to have to go see some and check out the personality. Of course, young horses tend to be hotter. Certain breeds are known for spunk, but again no breed is comprised of ONE kind of horse. I'd say just aim for something at least 8 yo, well trained and used to trail riding, not spooky, bathes/loads/ties/clips well, etc...

I agree completely. We have a 3 year old Saddlebred we raised and kids ride him all the time. If you can, find a trainer or someone in the horse business to help you search. I know we sell and give away family horses all the time not only from our personal stock, but even from our barn's lesson program. Find a barn near you and talk to them.
