Default What could he carry?

Just Curious
I own a chestnut frame overo yearling that was sired by an APHA smokey Black overo and out of a T.bred bay mare. Yes we got chestnut! So my question is this. Is there any chance he could carry a dilute gene from his sire? If he matures anything like his dam and proves himslef in the show ring he will be keept a stud, but since he's red i wasn't sure if I'd be stuck with just plain RED genectics
Thanks for any input!

It's very possible that he got the dilute gene, but it's also very possible that he didn't. I think he has about a 25% chance of having a creme gene. The only way to know for sure is genetic testing.

His registered name is "Im Puttinon A Tux", he's a sweetheart!
I have three free breeedings to him if you know anyone that may have a mare that would make a good match in the future. I don't think we'd be using them anytime soon and would bebale to sell them at a reduced price.
I think he's a pretty boy!
Thanks

If he carried the dilute gene it would have shown up, he would have been palomino.

Both parents were Ee for the red gene, (that is the only way to get a chestnut from black parents - bay is black modified by the agouti gene) he carries ee so no black from his side. If he were bred to a horse that is black or bay he would have a chance of throwing chestnut, bay or black.

If the mare were homozygous for black, foals would be black (or bay) only (+ any modifiers from the mare's side).

If he carries the Frame Overo gene, it would be important to be sure the mare does not carry it as well. Two frame genes passed on = Lethal white.

Finally he may or may not carry the agouti gene, only testing would tell as it does not show on a red horse.

You can learn more here: Horse Testing - Equine Genetic Testing and by Googling equine color genetics

What are the breedings? AI or Live cover? If the latter, where is he located? I may know someone.
