She looks like a typical Tobiano to me, she does have roaning in her paint markings however, and the head markings could also pass for that of an Overo.
Tobiano's color patterns can often be recognized by the paint markings looking alot like large and small circles on the body, sometimes connecting. (Though a Tobiano isn't always that color pattern, it is quite common.) White is allowed to cross the back, legs are usually white, and the head markings alot of times look like that of a solid-colored horse with a blaze, star, snip etc...

She's such a cutie!

She looks as though you could officially tell someone that she is a red-roan if asked the color. I wouldn't have a problem saying this if she were mine. However, if you really wanted to get official, you could have her dna tested. Is either of her pedigree have any roans that might show up on her papers? APHA generally tells you the color of the horse below the name... just curious...

there doesnt seem to be any roan on her papers. here are the colors top to bottom left to right:

Black/Tobiano
Sorrel/Tob/Tov
Bay/Tobiano
(Thoroughbred)
Sorrel?Tobaino
Sorrel/Overo
Bay/Tobiano
Sorrel/Tobiano
(Thoroughbred)
(Thoroughbred)
Black/Tobiano
Black/Tobiano
Bay/Overo
Black/Solid

Her mom has similar coloration but she is mostly white except for a chest plate and some on her hind quarters (i think)

could this also be due the overo in her back ground? im not very good with the whole paint colors

Thanks!

She looks like a Sabino to me and if so she could be double registerd. The Sabino gene often is mistaken for Roaning. One of the signs of being the Sabino gene is unusual face markings which she sure has that, I love it!
I know the president of the Sabino Horse Registry Sabino Horse Registry and if you send her pictures she can tell you if your filly could be a sabino, her name is Dyan and a wonderfull horse woman, I met her on the foalwatch group.
She may not respond to you right away as we have gotten word that she is without power right now due to the ice storms.
There is also a new DNA test that can be done for the Sabino gene as well.
Let me know what you find out.

I was going to ask if she had any lower-lip markings but Sabinos normally have white flecking around the flank and barrel. Her back-end roaning lead me to think she might have a higher possible chance of being a roan. (Which technically you could still "call" her a Red Roan Tobiano though it wouldn't be geneticly).
Another characteristic is white "frosting" at the dock of her tail where alot of white hairs make a sort-of scruffy line near the top of her tail although that is with the Rabacino pattern.

Now I'm interested to know which she is!

You've got a chance of homozygous if one of her parents at least has it. Does she have the frosting look above her tail that you can see? Like a little patch of it (best way I could describe). If so she should have rabacino and if not, I'll bet shes got the sabino in her.

I see several signs that she could could be sabino. The white ticking in her hair, odd face markings, chin spot and she apears to have dark eyes. If they were blue she would be conciderd tovero. lacing above the tail is also a sabino trait and splashed or lighting streaks up the legs but seeing she is all white in them areas you can't see it there.
Here is the address for the sabino registry, it shows pictures of Sabino markings Sabino Horse Registry
You can email picture to them and they will let you know if your filly is Sabino at sabinohorseregistry@yahoo.com or email Dyan at foxvangen@yahoo.com
Dyan is an awsome horse lady with years and years experiance. She is the author of the best foaling book I have ever owned called foaling around.

I knew she was I've had a couple born here that were sabinos too. My new filly I just bought last fall seems to carry the sabino gene too. I just love her to death but she sure is going to be a handfull lol Her bloodlines sure shine threw! Very cowy is putting it mildly lol
She is a Grandaughter to color me smart and has Smart little lena on top and bottom of her pedigree, she is loaded with cutting and reining horses on her papers. Her name is PEPPYS STARLIGHT LENA.

I bet your excited about being able to double register your girl. I'm so glad you emailed Dyan, isn't she the most wonderful person? Very smart lady!! and knows horses like the back of her hand.

Hi all!

I'm confused about colors of horses!!! So I decided to ask you people about this: The difference between "piebald", "skewbald", "pinto", "overo" and "tobiano". I mean seriously...everywhere I looked...there were different definitions.... So confusing!!
