Palomino Race Horse?????
I recently bought a 8 yr old Palomino Mare. She is very gentle and a finished horse. I am a beginner and i rode her without any problems, an 8 yr old rode her and my friend who is a trainer rode her..
There is only one thing that I am "freaked out" about.. This horse is fast and I don't mean fast i mean FAST!!!!! everyone that seen her "run" is amazed. She will take your breath away if you are on her and she runs. She will slow down when you tell her "easy and whoa" but I need to know if this is a common thing for Palominos to be FAST! The previous owner told me she was fast and he raced her against a thoroughbred (which she won) but I thought he was just kidding. He wasn't
I feel like i need to tell someone who is experienced about race horses because she has the speed unlike any other.
Anyone know anything about Palominos being know for their speed?

Hmmm, well yes AND no. That's not the clearest cut question to answer since Palominos are not a breed. They are a color.
It's going to depend upon the BREED of Palomino that you have- and on the individual horse. Since Palominos are not a breed, but a color, then you've got quite a wide variety. There are Palomino Walking horses, Palomino Ponies, Thoroughbreds, Quarter horses, Mustangs... the list goes on.
Would be kind of like asking if Sorrels or Roans were known for speed.
Don't get me wrong though, you can register Palomino colored horses within a Palomino registry. But it is a color registry.
Hope you like speed though, I am addicted to it- had a Quarab gelding once who I'm sure could match some racehorses. He had an undying burst of speed that would last for miles. I still hear from the owner and he has had several trainers/riders try Traveller out and state that he is the fastest mount they had ever sat astride.

Just as the other poster said, a Pali is a color not a specific breed. Usually they are stock or QH breeds but not always. QH are known for speed over a 1/4 mile that is how they got their name, so perhaps she is a QH and can pick up that speed quickly if she is a "hot" horse.
