Default which is more preferred colts or filly's?

we breed just a few of our mare's every year or so and a few outside mare's. we often want filly's and of course only get colts with one or two filly's in there, but i was wondering what everyone else prefer's..

Colts? or filly's?

Which is best if you try to sale these?

Thanks!

Beverly

Well, for me it doesn't really matter. I mostly go by the horse's conformation and personality. On the selling side of things, I think fillies would be easier to sell for they can always be used as broodmares down the road and colts might not be of enough quality to be used as a stud and thus be gelded later down the road.

Default I'm a Stud

I prefer the Colts that is. Mare's are great but to me now this is personal opinion, the colts seem to just have more heart. I don't know if it is that Testro thing or not. But it just seems they have fewer health issues and like to get out more. I have had a few mares that just seemed lazy.

I am sure it is like ford or chevy all comes from personal experiences and we are all chevy fans here... right? oh that reminds me of a joke off to the Funny forum... seeya

Idahospud - I am suprised that the Fllies/Mares you have expierenced have all been lazy. All of the ones I have rode and delt with have been very hyper! Then again, maybe that is because they are mostly TBs! All the Colts I have expierenced tend to be more stuborn and want to invade your space more and to me were lazy! LOL Thats part of the reason why they geld most race colts because they don't run when they are studs! LOL Silly boys, all they want to do is stop and sniff the girls!

Oh and one more thing! I'm a Ford girl! HAHA!!!

I'm a huge mare fan. I love the changeable behavior and sensitivity. I love the fact that the really force you to be a listening and feeling rider. My personal experience is that the bond a rider can form with a mare can be a powerful one. My mares have definitely made me a better rider. The geldings not as much.

I prefer fillies all the way! Once you figure out what makes eack on tick they will gladly give 110% effort everytime. I'm in the same sorta problem. I want to breed my mare but more then likely wouldn't keep a colt.

We should start up a filly fan club!!!!! We would already have 3 memebers. I must admit, I love fillies too, in fact, most of the racehorses I get on are 2yo - 3yo fillies!! Hot, hyper, senseitive too and just fun to ride!

Haha! Usually I end up being the minority when this subject comes up on open forums. This can only mean one thing~ this is where the smart sensitive people hang out

I am for the colts. From my very limited experince mares can be very unpredictable once thoses hormones set in. Now I know that colts can be the same as well, but you can geld a colt.
