This is a breed that I find very interesting and I would love to know more about. They seem to be pretty neat little horses, but around my area that are not any farms that I can find. Anyone own an Icelandic? If so, what do you think of the breed?

I have one and did not have a good time....I still have her. after being a pasture pet for 20 years. My friends daughter has a little paint icy. and is the best pony i ever seen....I think if you find a good one i would get it, BUT find a good one. HAVE FUN

Cornona... I'm interested in why you say that you did not have a good time with your Icelandic Horse. Was there a problem or just a personality clash or what? It is, indeed, a very unique breed and one that you don't hear very much about.

I would guess that this would be true of any breed. While a breed of horse can have characteristics, horses and ponies can have their own unique personality. You can have two ponies of the same breed, I would bet, and have two completely different ponies based upon personality.

The trainer I am working with has helped me to realize to start moving away from thinking of "Breeds" and more towards thinking about unique characteristics/traits that I desire.
