I have a gelded horse that thinks he is still a stallion.He is 9 yrs old. I wasnt told this when I bought him, my question is, has anyone had or heard of second operation success with a horse this age? Its not a problem I cant live with,but it is real inconvient since he is pastured with my mare .

I do believe they can go in and do motre surgery but it's no garrintee. Usually if a gelding still thinks he's a stud he has been gelded proud. When being gelded if they leave anypart of the cord this causes the gelding to still produde teststron and act like a stud.
I would definatly call a vet to see if there is anything they can do but I do believe it would be more of an exploritory surgery whit no garintee.
I would definatly remove him from the mares pasture! It is not fare to the mares to be harressed all the time and if he is study enough to mount and penitrait the mares you are risking them mares getting bladder and uterine infections.

There are a few test that can be done before resulting to exploritory surgery. There are a couple of different blood test that can be done to test for testosterone. I would have them done first. Depending on the results will let you know if exploritory is even needed. The results should come back either positive or negative. If it comes back gray so to speak then surgery would be a good choice. Had a client that rescued a young horse that acted very studly (to the point of jumping fences) his test would come back inconclusive and they performed surgery, he ended up having a retained testicle, high up in the abdomin.

I also had a 20 year old gelding that came on to my place that would tease my mare something awful to the point of keeping her in heat. We caught him once and he had even mounted and penitrated her. He was gelded correctly but still carried the stallion traits. I had to have my friend find another place to keep him for both of the horses safety.

Some geldings no matter at what age they are gelded can still act like stallions. But to put your mind at ease I would do the blood test. I believe there are 2-3 test if I remember correctly.

thanks p8nt,my gelding also will mount and penetrate my mare,very frustrating,our pastures only seperated by fence and i worry that he will hurt himself trying to get to her.

IF a stallion is not cut correctly, they will still show and preform like a stallion. They just can't reproduce.
