Yikes! That's downright scary....first of all, why hasn't someone reported this woman to Animal Control / Animal Cruelty, if the horses are literally battling for food?? If this story is true, then I would think that the animal welfare people would be all over it. Definately would be interested in getting the details on this, so that it could be looked into further.
A common practice is artificial insemination, which may explain how they can still sell "breedings" to a stallion that is deceased. I would not want to give money to someone who treated a horse so cruelly, however.
