Default Current Scam Old Scam

Here are some current posts from equine forums. I know some are really old but like they say, Study the original and you will know the Counterfeit.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I recently recieved an email from a person calling himself John Christian. He stated he wanted to buy the horse I had advertised, but he never asked about the horse. He stated he was a bussiness man based in London but currently in South Africa on bussiness. He stated aa associate in the U.S. who owed him some money would wire me a check which was for 5000 dollars more than the asking price. I was then to wire him the balance of the check and he would arrange for professional shippers to pick up the horse. I emailed him back and told him he was an idiot.

Actually this particular scam is going on in many different incarnations, so beware!

There is a man targetting Virtual Assistants who goes by the name Todd Meyer. He has become very sophisticated in his delivery and how he does his scam. He even had a one of my VA buddies going for awhile until she received a POST DATED Cashier's Check. She smelled a rat -- banks don't post date checks. But because this guy promised lots of work over several months she had turned down several other clients. So even though he didn't catch her in his scam, she lost out on other potential clients with real money.

Things to look at:
  • If they claim to be a business man or woman, then they should have a business email address not a yahoo or hotmail account.
  • If they are from another country and/or "representing" someone else, be extremly cautious.
  • And of course the old adage, if it sounds too good to be true, double and triple check things out!

I have received a couple different e-mails like this. I don't even open them unless I personally know the person or the e-mail is from an on-line business that I have worked with.

Like Cheryl said anyone living outside your country claiming to be owed money is a scam-artist.

Oh yeah, I've had my fair share of them and even had someone send me a counterfiet CHECK! I took it to the bank just for the hell of it and yeah, they said it was a counterfiet so I sent it to the Australian Federal Police and they had fun with it and all the resulting emails from that conversation - I don't know what happened, but they DID say the FBI were looking for someone who had stolen cheques from a bank and people who were making counterfeit cheques etc etc.

So yeah, who knows - like someone else said, anyone claiming to be "owed money" is a scam-artist.

I also had the one that said somethign along the lines of "I will get my associate to send you the 5000 plus shipping to you and I will ask you to forward the shipping costs to my shipping company" ---- do I look stupid to you?!? For real!

Don't do it if they say that either - that's a slap in the face obvious scam.

HAHA!! Reminding me of scams makes me laugh- I had one ad for a couple of fillies and the ad stated that they were "well-bred" meaning they had good bloodlines...well this dude from somewhere told me he was interested in my bred fillies.

I figured it was one of those but I drug him on for a bit and he said he'd use the "horse" for pleasure... (I had three in the ad) so I asked him to describe the color of PALOMINO to me because that was the color of the horse. He wrote back and told me he didn't know about the question I was asking him! And he already had seen pictures of these horses and couldn't even say something like, golden, or light brown...or anything.

Well he said he would send me a check for like 4500 or something close to that and then his hauler would come and pick the horse up and I should send the rest of the money back to him.

GET THIS: He also asked that I would please take the horse off the internet AFTER he bought it, and if I would do that, he would give me an extra $200!!! IS THAT NOT SO STUPID!!!! OF COURSE I'M GOING TO TAKE THE HORSE OFFLINE WHEN SHE WAS SOLD!!! Duh!

I emailed him back and told him...uh... !@@#$!@!# everything I thought of him...and how much of a dumb--- he is. Man some people can make me laugh.
