Default My Avairies

Besides my love of horses, we also raise cockatiels, love birds, finches, dove, fan-tailed pigeons and peacocks. It's not a very lucrative business and it is a lot of work, but it is something that we enjoy.

Here are a few pictures of our set-up.

Oh very nice! I used to manage a pet store and one of my jobs was taking care of the breeder birds. I'm a sucker for baby cockatiels... I absolutely love them and would love to get another some day. They're so sweet!

Oh, I think all baby birds are so ugly until they get most of their feathers. I usually handfeed most of my babies so that they are good and tame for potential owners. This is very time consuming until they learn how to eat from a syringe then it only takes a minute.

This is a picture of JoJo (named by my grandson). She is 3 months old and waiting for an owner.

Hey what kind of Peacocks do you have? I just got my first two last weekend and I'm really excited about it, I've had several other types of bird but this is a first for me.

Oooh! I love lovebirds! I think they're so pretty. I would love to have a couple, but I don't have space for a cage right now. Are they very hard to train & upkeep?

I live in BC and have two love birds that I am trying to give away and nobody wants them. They are both female, so I am trying to give them to seperate homes. My daughter moved out, after moving back home with them and told me she would come back for them! It has now been over a year and she doesn't want them. So I want to get rid of them.
So my question is, how do you find homes for your birds?

No, Love birds do well by themselves. They were called lovebirds because they tend to "cuddle" with each other. Our's thinks the big block with the almond in it is his best buddy. We call his buddy Wilson (like in the Tom Hanks movie... the name of the ball). Lovebirds can be mean -- even when hand raised if you are not "their" person. And they are the ones to choose who their person is - not you!

Terri,

How do you prevent (or do you?) your 'tiels from immitating the doves and or peacocks. I cannot imagine what they would do to the cry of a peacock. My entire flock immitated doves and raised the decible level about 1000% It was the most ungodly sound and I am so glad that my last remaining 'tiel has dropped that from his repertoire!
