Unhappy How do you preserve horses hair?

I have a question. I just recently had to put down my arabian after a very good fight against cancer. He was my best friend and riding partner for 18 wonderful years. The hospital I took him to put him down and they sent me a braid of his tail and mane with ribbon and flowers and I would like to place it in a shadow box with his ribbons he won at the shows. How would I preserve the hair?? Or do you have to put anything on it? Thanks for your time.

Ellen, I am terribly sorry!!! I know what it's like, I've been through it a few times. Not sure what you could put on the hair, I've got some laying around here from the past 12 years back.

Just keep the hair dry and out of direct sunlight. Hair can last for centuries if kept dry.

So sorry for your loss it is never easy. I lost my mare in June, But she left me a beautiful filly. Just keep it stored in a dry place, I have mane and tail from all of mine and I keep it in ziplock bags, that way it stays clean and dry, some is 13 years old.
