Default Water Drainage

What is the best way you have found to keep water from developing in your outside stalls? I was trenching today.. and this year I cut a line and dropped in some gravel and then covered it with some shavings.. hopefully the water will follow the trench and through the rocks out the stall this year.

but not complaining we need the rain. Just wanted to see if anyone had some good ideas or photos of what works the best.

Thanks for your time.

We are in the process of putting our barn up and we have raised the ground and sloped it all away from the barn. So far (barn not up yet) with the rain (4 inches last Fri/Sat) that area has stayed dry. We had some friends that put gutters on there large barn and then piped that run off out to their pasture areas. Are the stalls covered at all or are they completely open. If they are completely open you might have to prepare the ground differently (during the non rainy season). Maybe using a layering system different types of materials like sand or rock with the dirt. You could talk with a landscaping company in your area and see what they would suggest for better drainage of the area. They are good at figuring that stuff out. But for now I would build up the area and trench like you have. Good luck
