Default Suggestions on Elk Problem

Does anyone have a way of keeping elk from chasing horses away from their feed? This has always been a problem in the winter, but this year we have more snow than usual. I think we finally have them fenced out of the hay stack, but they chase the horses off their feed and I'm afraid they aren't getting enoung to eat.

One of the mares got pissed the other night and took a bite out of an old cow the other night. Only if they would all do that maybe the #$@*&*# elk would leave 'em alone.

Thanks
Ann

D,

Invite my husband over to go elk hunting! It is so hard to get drawn for an elk tag here. (Just kidding sort of, Please no one get mad).

Is there a way that you can put the horses in stalls to feed them? Unfortunately we don't have that problem here.
The only other thing I could think of is feed them some cheap or old hay on the other side of the fence, maybe that would keep them from jumping over and eating the horses feed. I know that's just what you wanted another feed bill.

Can you call game and fish and see if they could help you or give you suggestions.

Hope you can get it figured out,

But if not we love to have some elk meat. (I'm so bad sometimes)

P8NT

Trust me we have threatened to shoot 'em. I didn't fill my tag this past season and some fresh meat would be great. They do issue late season elk tags but everyone we know and trust have tags for different units and you have to put in for the draw in April.

Any how. No we don't have stalls. That's actually a project for this summer, build a barn. The Division of Wildlife wont do anything because we don't raise anything for sale. I have considered finding some old hay to feed, but then it would just cause a bigger problem.

Tell your hubby to put in for unit 52 late season and come on up next year. HAHA

Thanks for the suggestions.

Ann

Yeah, I guess feeding them would be like up feeding the Coyotes here. I know it takes time for a barn we bought ares a few months back and now have to make sure we get it up before March when our mare is due to foal. Your not to far away about a days drive or so. Good luck getting rid of them.
