Unhappy HELP:I have problems with my mare and its forcing a sale...

So I bought my mare a while back more then a year. She is technical my second horse. When I bought her she was just sitting around and had a bad attitude, dosent like other horses, has had a bad past with people. Cant be out with other horses unless its on the bottom of the pack. So she is dominant.

When she is in her stall she makes faces and when eating she use to charge when another horse went by. She was in a pasture and we think they could have been starved or didnt have enough food so she had to fight for it. I did work with her with a flag. When a horse walked by I would shake it. And so now she makes faces and looks into the stall and no more charging! Which is nice.

When I first came to the barn I took lessons on her and she was for sale. At first I didnt want to buy her. I said no...then Ill think about. Then I bought her. I do really love this mare I dont know how because when I come into the barn to say hi she will give me a face or if I try and pet her she turns away. Then If I dont even look at her coming in I glimpse and she just looks like "What? No hello?" So I just dont get it.

She has an attitude like this until I work her, and then I can pet and she is very submissive. She has gotten better. But is still mean. She was referred to the B***H of the barn. And I cant groom before I work her or she tries to kick makes faces or tries to bite.
I have putt a lot of time and emotion into this horse and I have gotten half of it back from her. She is up for sale. One for her attitude and because Ive been dumped five times because she spooks for no reason or some stupid thing like a bird or the wind. But the trainer said she isnt a spooky horse and she isnt. But that one problem....

So I know ive just said a lot. And thanks for ready, I will sell her. Unless she has a huge change before someone comes along. Please any help on changing her? I did have her on tea leaves to calm her down but I didnt really help shes off them now and I dont see a difference.
Thanks,
Traveler

This is Gypsy.

hi. YOur horse is doing what a dominet hors will do. testing you. She thinks that you are one of her submissive ones. YOu need to stand up to her. If she tries to bite, snack her on the nose, say NO. if she tries to kick, make her move her feet. This mare is a problem. Her problem she is winning everytime you work with her. You need to make her understand that you are BOSS not her. whether she is int he stall, outside, under the saddle. doesn't matter just make sure you let her know you are boss/.

Oh no I dont let her get away with it. Im constantly checking her back, if she gets just a few inches in front of me. Some times when shes so bad I make her be at the end of the rope leading her around so she learns my space and she dosent have any. In the arena I do ground work and pet her all over till she has a good look or she licks and chews some times I get a yawn.

When grooming I do smack her when she tries to bite but it does have to be right when shes trying or the release wont get to her head. And when she kicks, right when she just lifts her leg just a little (as a warning) I move her or when she is really trying to get me I jab the brush into her side and make her move away.

I have done a lot a lot of ground work with her. I dont let her get away with this stuff. Like I said she has gotten better since ive been with her but Its an on going thing Im just so tired of it. And im tired of fighting with her.

And every time I do work her ground/under saddle she does have a change but its right back in the morning.

Default Dominate Mare

If you have come to your wits end, selling her on is a good idea as neither you or her will benefit. Just scrutinize the buyer. But if you decide to keep her, sounds like she is lost. She is in charge but doesn't really want to be, or have a vet give her the once over make sure shes not in pain. No body can be nice if they hurt. She may be sensitive enough not to hit a good " HEY HEY AUGHT" might work. Ground work is always preferred over being on top of problem horses. On the lead rope if you stop short does she stop without lead pressure, turn left does she come right around you,to the right does she pivot without being touched. The more control you get over her mind without physical force. See if you can find someone to work with you. Not all horses want to be My friend Flicka. My good show mare was awesome and together we won major Championships, but she never greated me, didn't want to be around people or other horses. Had a great work ethic and was a super business partner, but had the attitude if we are not working just leave me alone.
