Hi can anyone suggest a good cream to soften hooves. My farrier has said that my young horses hooves are too hard. I have tried soaking them in a bucket but he's not very happy with this. I have tried to order Giddy Up Gal's Soaking Boots but they don't deliver to the UK - any suggestions??
Never had a horse this didn't work on and can be found all over the world, very inexpensive as well. Lard- The left over fat by-product found @ butcher shops. They often times will give it away free, or its very cheap $1.00 lb. Buy as much as you like, it keeps very well in the freezer. Take out a small block put in a regular hoof oil container or coffee can with small paint brush as an applicator. Apply generously over entire foot rubbing into hairline. Remember you can't fix the foot thats already there, what your trying to do is encourage new better growth.
There are all kinds of products out there to use from commercial to homemade. I keep the area around my water tank moist, not soupy wet but keep the ground soft. Then The day prior to the farrier coming out I will soak their feet in water for 20-30 minutes am and pm. and then hopefully before he gets there. But some horse will just have harder feet than others. I have one that no matter how much soaking or topical rubs nothing works she just has hard feet.
Good Luck
