Unhappy Rookie Rider needing help

HI ALL!
I GUESS YOU CAN SAY THAT I AM A ROOKIE RIDER. I BOUGHT THIS HORSE ABOUT A WEEK AGO. THE OWNER SAID THAT HE IS A KIDS HORSE. (BOMBPROOF) ALTHOUGH I HAVE NEVER SEEN HIM RIDEN. I WANT TO RIDE BUT I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT HE IS LIKE WHEN HE IS RIDEN. I DO KNOW THAT HE SPOOKS WITH LOUD NOISES. MY BIGGEST FEAR IS GETTING ON HIM AND GETTING BUCKED OFF. EVEN THOUGH THE PREVIOUS OWNER SAID THAT HE IS GREAT UNDER SADDLE. PEOPLE DONT ALWAYS TELL THE TRUTH. OR MAYBE HE WAS GOOD WITH THEM BUT DONT MEAN HE WILL BE GOOD WITH ME, HE DOES GOOD ON THE LEAD. HE CAN BE HARD HEADED AT TIMES BUT THATS MAINLY AT FEEDING TIME. WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST ME DOING. THE OTHER OWNER DID TELL ME THE LAST TIME HE WAS RIDEN WAS THE PAST SUMMER. PLEASE HELP

OOPS, We all make mistakes.
My rule of thumb, never believe the seller[and I have sold horses as well] and never get on first[be the test pilot]
But, We are past that so...
Was the sale a pleasant one, where the seller can come and ride him for you.
If not, start at the very beginning. Since you have no proof that he rides. You can go all the way back with lungeing, sacking out, tacking, longe lining...
Or you can skip to tacking, if he seems comfortable with that start there.
Once he is tacked, best to have a helper. Start to mount if he acts nervous, do just that start to mount over and over, until he's sleeping. Then mount, remember don't kick him in the a** or drop down heavily. Again if he's still being good, have a helper lead you around, if he's nervous repeat until he's not. If without a helper turn his head and gently ask for a walk.
It really is going to be trail and error to see where he's at.
VERY IMPORTANT-WHERE A HELMET.

If he spooks with loud noises, then my guess is he is not a kids horse. A "bombproof" horse should not be spooky or jumpy of anything. I would have to agree, never believe the seller. I got into the same situation. I bought a horse that I was told was a kids horse, but that he hadn't been ridden in 2 years.....also was told he trailers well. When I went to get him, he reared up as soon as I led him to the trailer. That was my first warning sign, but I looked past that, and got him anyway. Long story short, turns out he was green broke, and he bucked me off and hurt my back pretty bad. I never got back on him, and I sold him. He was too much horse for me, but I thought he was a kids horse. Thank heavens I never let my kids ride him!! Try and find an expereinced rider to ride him first, or like Ltc4h said, see if the seller will come ride him for you. If the seller will not, then you know that the horse is not what you were told. Best of luck to you and your new horse, I hope he works out for you!!

Default good news

Good news. I had a friend come over to ride him. 40+ years of riding. He saddled him up and jumped right on. Tex did great. Tex is very head strong but we put a tie down on him and he did alot better. I was really nervous at first to get on. But i got over that quick. My friend said that he is a very pround horse. He rides very smooth and prounces around like he is a movie star. My friend said that he is a wonderful horse. I was very proud of my boy. I guess he is a keeper. And as far as sparky. we had a 3 yr, old riding him.
