Usually a green horse-green rider is not a good combination.
I would suggest you ask around and work with a good Trainer.
But if that isn't possible, Rick has some books that are put in fairly simple terms and easy to understand.
The fact that your guy is proud cut, really should not effect his learning/training curve or how/what he can be trained to do. It really is only a description.
Most really good show/performance horses are Stallions, that carry a full breeding season as well.
Of course proud cut can mean either;
Proud cut is where the vet doesn't cut out all the testicular and epididymus tissue from the horse, and the horse continues to produce a high level of androgens because of it.
I haven't read about any "TRUE" proud cut.

Many people call a gelding who mounts mares and still has stud tendancies as "proud cut".
And those used for breeding prior to being gelded.
