Question Wandering Horse

I just bought two horses. A quarter horse and an appaloosa. The appaloosa seems to have to have a lot of direction. I have about a mile long dirt rode that I am riding them on now and it is a state maintained road so its pretty wide. When I ride her she seems to want to zig-zag to each side of the road like shes off in lah lah land. I have to constantly pull her back in the road. Shes a very gentle horse but I don't know why she does this. Any suggestions?????

I had a mare like that once, she would wander all over the path. At first I couldn't figure out why. Then I was out with a friend and riding and she kept veering over towards them and I would have to pull her back. Then the light bulb went off . As I was out riding I would be looking around or over at my friend talking. This would shift my body weight just slightly causing her to change direction (wander). Then I started experimenting. I would lean or shift less to see how much it would take. Well to make a long story short all I had to do was turn my head and look in that direction and she would change the direction we were going. Hope this helps.

Well I bought these horses for me and my girlfriend. I bought her the appaloosa and the quarter horse for me. She has no riding experience so I want to figure this horse out before I put her on. The quarter horse does great. So I tried saddling them both up and riding the quarter horse and leading the appaloosa behind to see if she would wander when I did this. I couldn't really tell so I had my dad ride her. She did the same thing with him. He seems to think that she needs new shoes and the gravel is hurting her feet and that she's being lazy. So I'm going to get them both shawed and see if that and some sterness don't straighten her out. Thanks for the advice.
