Default Trailer tying???????

I Just Got A New Trailer And Don"t Know Alot About Loading And Such. I Just Sold My App And We Deliverd Her Today. We Left Some Slack In The The Lead Rope And It Seemed To Give Her Too Much Room To Move Around And Made The Trailer Shift Alot. How Much Room Should I Leave As Far As Slack In The Tie Rope? Any Advice Is Welcome.

I have found over the years that it is just easier and just the right amount of line to buy the trailer ties and just use them instead of your lead rope. This way incase they break the trailer strap you still have your lead rope as a back up or for when you get to where you are going. Depending on the horse I either then take off their lead once they are clipped to the tie strap or I will loosely tie the lead around the neck. But even using the straps some horses will just rock a trailer more than others. Hope this helps.

I always carry a coupe extra tie straps and leads in the trailer just in case.

Default Depends on the Horse

As always P8nt,

Has a great answer, It really is the horse. Some just trailer well and some are nervous wrecks and come out all frothed up.

I have used a couple different tie straps, and haven't had any worries. I always wondered if their was trailer accident what would happen? Is it better for the horse to have a little extra lead?

Anyway .. some of the breakaways are good ideas just for the fact, they will do less damage if they feel they accomplished getting away from whatever spooked them.
