Wow, they look like great riding horses. I think every child should ride an Appy. I think they are great teachers. I learned on several.

well, i don't know what that says for my seat, but thank you. i've always loved the apps. endurance. only horses i've ever ridden much were apps or quarter crosses. and the apps always seemed to be damn near tirless. freind of mine that really got me into riding owned a sorrel app name of tequilla. one black spot on his right flank size of a silver dollar and one dime sized white spot on his left flank. otherwise just looked like a sorrel QH. white blaze on his face and white socks on his rear legs. wonderful horse. taught many people how to ride. he was 25 yrs. old when i first rode him. he hadn't been out for a month or so at the time. she wanted him ridden to keep him in some semblance of shape. went with them to a local park called camp croft. alot of pretty steep hills and hollows. rode at a fast walk for a couple of miles, when we came upon a pretty steep, long hill. lots of roots and it was pretty rocky footing. the old horse was nimble and sure footed all the way to the top. once we got there all the horses half his age or less needed a breather. i swear i think he was just getting warmed up. after that i rode a near 16 hand marbled app called oreo for a while. big ol' jug headed thing, but one of my favorite sayings is "pretty ain't everything". great old horse. never shied from anything and was always ready to go. i wanted a horse like the both of them, and luckily found that in cisco. he can be a bit hardheaded at times, but i can forgive him that for his willingness to go and abillity to learn quickly. he's not the fastest thing out there, and he'll never be any kind of show horse. but, i'll say this... if i could only ever have one horse for the rest of my life, it'd be him. i'm a trail rider, and i feel like i've got the best trail horse anyone could ever ask for. he's fearless, and seemingly tireless.

Well your story is very reason I say a every kid should ride one. That is a great way to be introduced to horses! I had a black appy with big silver dollar spots when I was a teen. Hoss was his name. Can ya tell I liked Bonaza? haha. He too was a tough little horse. Like a timex watch. But he also taught me to ask nicely when I wanted him to do something and he never took my teen guff. I rode him all over the mountian and hills in Montana. My dad sold him when I left home.

thanks,

yeah, that's us. big as life and twice as ugly. me and my bubba do have us a time together. right now he's riding a line back dun named of all things "dunny", real creative name there, huh? dunny was originally matt's wife's horse, but he has some respect issues with her right now and matt's let her take m.c. till we get inside dunny's head a little better. he's a tad high strung and takes him a bit to calm down at the beggining of a trail ride. i think he has a little paso fino in him from his looks, and he almost acts like he wants to "rack" when he goes to a trot. smoothest trot i've ever ridden. he's a real fence checker too. fast as greased lightning.

rode sunday myself and my usually bomb proof cisco must have been having a bad day or something. he was fine as long as i was in the saddle, but whenever we were taking a breather he was a might spookish. ain't figured out quite what was going on with him, but i think he'll be alright. kind of a strange place for one thing, and i couldn't find anything wrong with him physically, so i guess we'll work in the round pen some this week and see how he acts. he spooked at someone crushing a beer can of all things. never done that before.

Eh, I didn't see any ugly.

You know, sometimes out equines can surprise us.
Just when we think we know them.

Maybe Cisco was having an off day or just being impatient.

well, i think i've sorta figured out that his girth pad is to short. with help from paint crazy, that is. he's thickened up some and i believe the girth was pinching him behind his elbows. anyhow, PC turned me on to a 100% mohair cinch. i'm still looking for one right now as all the tack places around here only carry nylon, or nylon mohair blends. looking at one on ebay right now so soon as i get one, we'll see how he does.

oh, and the ugly in the picture ain't so hard to miss. it's right there on the right, on top of that spotted horse. of course, cisco's so pretty he's got to make me look better. imagine how good he looks when i ain't riding!

Great looking horses. I've had a horse roll while I was in the saddle for a pinching girth. Not fun. But, hey, it happens sometimes.
