Red face A laugh for all you great riders.

I have never had a problem with laughing at my own stupidity. I rode bareback all my life, but never owned a horse of my own till I reached 45 yrs. old. I am 52 now and just adopted a lrg draft mix. After a few weeks after a grooming session I decided to go for a ride. Suffering from arthritis and not having a saddle the right size I was hard pressed to find a way up. I tried several approaches, but no luck. Since he was very laid back and never spooked, I got a "great idea". HAAA HAA!! I asked my niece to hold him while I pulled up a six foot ladder. After climbing the ladder I went to mount him"forgetting all the Show Sheen I had brushed on him". I sliiped on and over to the far side so fast my niece never saw it. I saw her looking from the ladder to the horses back, then looking back to the ladder again . She was looking so puzzled when she couldn't find me that I burst into histerical laughter even though every inch of my body was racked with pain from hitting the ground. And the horse could care less. He just nibbled my hair and went back to grazing.

ROTF, oh, I needed that. Don't feel bad, we've all had those mistakes. I've had more than one spill that were my own fault, lol. At least he wasn't moving! You said he's a draft mix, how big is he? That would be quite a ways to fall, you're not hurt are you?

I haven't measured him. I think he is about 16 hands. I've got so many old injuries that when it hurts I'm not sure if it's a new one?? No broken bones. Next time no show sheen. That was the most slippery seat in my life!! I adopted an older horse, so nothing phases him. Picture below. I stand 6 ft. so that gives you a better idea of his size. I still want a shire some day. But no stall strong enough for one.

Have a great day!!

Smile Great cross.

I knew he was something like that, a draft and quarterhorse mix.
I love his big rugged body, it looks like he can handle alot.
You are lucky to have him, he is so beautiful and he must be
a really great horse from what i've heared on this topic

I hope your day was good.

ROFL!!! I can say I've done this before, so don't feel too bad haha . Your boy is very beautiful! I have actually seen full-bred Quarter horses of his same thick frame and bone size, but he does look like he's got a bit of draft in his conformation. Thanks for sharing

Default Not only you

I went to a barn to help someone with a horse that wouldn't canter for her. She asked me if I would ride him bareback since he was so smooth. I climbed up on the tail gate of a pick up truck to get on. Unfortunately, he was very fat and slick with a roached mane. When I slid on, I just kept on going. With no mane to grasp, I fell on the other side on a concrete driveway. I saw stars and attribute my "mental limitations" to that moment which happened 30 years ago.
I am so glad your horse found you. He is beautiful. Are you interested in dressage?

Thanks,
I have intrests in showing halter and western pleasure. But would do more if possible. Due to the type of job I do and the fact that my horses are boarded at a friends make it difficult to work on much of anything with them. 10 hrs of welding a day doesn't leave much energy.

I have a 17hh Hanoverian whom I've used a 7 foot step ladder to get up on. I've only used a saddle on him because it is a long way down. I'm 5'4". I rode my 15hh Canadian mare bareback this spring and I too went up on her and kept on going down the other side. She must have thought me a total nutcase because I got up and did it again. Riding her bareback is like riding a barrel of jelly, without the barrel.... But I felt accomplished and the ground was soft. Still I was sore for a couple of days.

Talking Clydesdales

That's hillarious! My daughters and I bareback our Clydesdales all the time. I wear cords and half chaps to stick. Seems to work for me.

Default You Tube Clip

You Tube Horse Falls. I think it's like the first one. Not much western riding but reminds you how dangerous it is. 1:58 happened to a friend once. SCARY!!!!!!!
