Default mustang crazy

hi my name is justin and i'm from just outside calgary alberta. i have always been lured to the wild mustangs and have recently purchases a property that would alow me to properly facilitate and care for a horse. I want to rescue a wild wustang and am wondering if anyone has any information on how i might do that here in canada. i was also researching the topic and ran across a web site of a trainer www.jayojay.com he has a really great vidieo series on a wild mustang that he personally broke or is breaking i'm not sure cause there are only 3 or 4 episodes out in the series and he has just been able to get the haulter on. i personally really like his approach with the horses and am wondering if anybody has any input on his techniques, as well as any other approaches.
i appreciate any intrest and advice on the subject
bye for now

First of all, welcome to the forum - glad to see another new face around the place.

Secondly, unfortunatly I can't help you with the mustang rescue in Canada as I'm on the other side of the world in Australia - you're best bet would be to Google mustang rescue in your area and see what comes up, or go to your local Yahoo area (.com.au for me as an example) and then search the same type of thing, you should get something that comes up that would be helpful to you.

I've never heard of that training horseman, but it sounds like an interesting read - I'll have to do that one day when the computer is behaving itself.

Welcome again though!

Welcome Justin,

I'm sure you will get more than a few responses to your questions about Mustangs. I've seen a few posts about rescues.

Hey Justin,
I just recently saw a program on RFD TV on training mustangs. You could always contact them because they had listed different places to adopt Mustangs. The program was great. I own a Horsemans campground at Mammoth Cave KY and have had several mustangs here and their owners have said they are wonderful Trail horses. Good Luck

Welcome,

The program on RFDTV that was talked about was the Extreme Mustang Makeover, I believe one of the horses went for $50,000. There are a lot of mustangs down here in the SouthWestern, US. The Bearu of Land Management puts most of them on and they have some rules that must be followed if you adopt one of there horses. They can be a very rewarding project, but like any horse can be dangerous, and level will be a little higher since they are wild.

Good luck and Let us know if you find a piece of the wild west to tame.

Howdy! Have you ever heard of Monty Roberts? (www.montyroberts.com) -he has an awesome book called "Shy Boy" and tells the story of how he tamed a wild mustang, never touched before in 3 days. It tells you the process of join-up, Shy Boy's first saddle, and riding him back to the ranch to show all the old cowboys how it can be done with a few shortcuts lol
It's a story at the same time, and also has some other of his training methods in it also. He has some good faoundation on his training. I've had mustangs in the past and they are an amazing breed of horse!!
