Red face Update On Special Tan

Well we thought my girl was going to have her baby yesterday morning. Everything was a go, vet said yup she's ready, could feel the feet and head. She's was down for 3 hours, wouldn't get up. Kept everyone away, went to rodeo last night, and guess what. NOPE!!! No baby.
This morning Miss Grump Mare laying down, sides heaving, decides she wants breakfast when I come out to check her. So good mommy that I am feed her, and vet said let her out, she maybe looking for a "GOOD SPOT". So now she's out in the pasture, and I'm pacing the floors again.

How Do I get Miss Grumpy Mare to Let That Kid OUT? LOL

Oh, I feel for you!! Last spring a friend had a mare in to foal, but no one knew when she was actually bred! She was turned out with a stud for several months and they didn't know when she took. Vet said just a few weeks away so when we thought it was about time we got the stall ready. ...............That stall was ready for 2 months before she had that colt! She gave all the signs, bagged up and her hiney was like jelly, but she just wouldn't pop it out!!! When she finally did though, it was a gorgeous little medicine hat colt, wish I could've kept him, lol.

Hope all goes well, and quickly!!

You know you have to take a TON of pictures when she foals! I never get tired of the babies . Who was she bred to? Do you have a site where I can see the sire?

Having trouble uploading his photo. I'm going to download it to my Yahoo page for you all to see.
I have 3 camera's ready for when this foal is born. Today she is sweaty and pacing like a mad women. Vet say's she's holding it and trying to " find a spot". She was already bred when I bought her last March. I have a photo of the Sire, but funny enough we can never remember his name. I've been trying to get his info from the previous owner.Hopefully he gets back to me soon.

Very flashy! Should be a very nice foal. Are you hoping for a filly or colt? Do you know any of his blood lines?

He is a beautiful Tovero. He looks tall also, are you planning to register your baby?

Yes I do plan on registering the baby. I'm hoping for a filly, but will take a colt. Both would be keepers.LOL.

Quick question for you all. Tan Coliced real bad the other night, she was down flat for several hours. First thought labor, vet came out said labor and colic. Gave a shot of bamamine. then finally got her up and she's been up since. Nothing in her diet changed. Except hubby had let her down in the green new pasture for a day.
This got me puzzled. What do you think.

You need to have your Vet back out.
Any type of colic symptoms during a pregnancy, could be a clear indicator of trouble to the foal.

Did the vet have any idea what kind of colic? Strangulation, twists, displacement? It doesn't sound like a feed induced colic (impaction specifically).
(Haha, we just went over Colic in my Medical Management class yesterday so this is neat timing! ) I know that mares often displace parts of the large intestine *after* giving birth because everything's been moved around and it's all a bit (bad wording coming) "looser."
I'll bring this up in class tomorrow morning if someone hasn't figured out an answer on here by then!

PS Flunixin doesn't fix the problem per se, it just masks the symptoms. Keep an eye on her! If this doesn't resolve itself naturally, when the flunixin wears off she could be in pain again.

Ok, so I talked to my teacher today. She wanted to know if Tan did a lot of drinking that day, it could have been a mild impaction. She also suggested possibilities of a gas colic, or maybe the foal twisted the wrong way and briefly cut off blood supply to a part of the intestines, or possibly just twisted the wrong way and the Flunixin was there long enough for the foal to twist again. She did say that since she wasn't there to see the situation, it was near impossible for her to give an accurate diagnosis.
It was informative for me! :P I'm sorry if it didn't help you as much.

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you all sooner. Been with Special Tan alot more. Vet came back out to recheck Tan. All is back to normal. It was a warm day and she did drink alot of water, and the foal was kicking and moving alot to. She did have some gas but that's normal for her. LOL. You gave me alot of info, I can't thank you enough.

Talking Special Tan Just Had Baby!!!!!!!!!! I'm A Grandma Again!!!

AT 4 AM THIS MORNING SPECIAL TAN GAVE BIRTH TO HER "ROWDY" BABY. SHE WAS RUNNING AROUND NOT SURE WHAT TO DO UNTIL 4:30 AM. SHE FINALLY FULLY SETTLED DOWN AT 5 AM AND IS NOW LAYING WITH THE SWEET, BIG BABY.
PHOTO'S TO COME THIS MORNING WHEN IT GETS LIGHT OUT. BY FLASHLIGHT IT HAS A WHITE BLAZE, WITH A LIGHT TAN, TO GOLDEN COLOR, AND WHITE REAR LEGS.

AS YOU ALL KNOW SHE IS LATE IN BIRTHING BUT BABY HAS VERY HEALTHY LUNGS.
TAN WOULD WALK AWAY FROM IT AND IT WOULD SQUEEL TO HER, SHE KEEP WALKING AND WOULD ONLY LOOK BACK. NOT NICE IN MY BOOK. LOL.
NOW IT'S WAIT TO SEE IF SHE WILL LET IT NURSE. THINK IT'S A FILLY, GOT TO GET CLOSE ENOUGH TO CHECK. SHE HAD IT OUTDOORS AFTER ALL MY CAREFUL EFFORTS IN GETTING THE BARN READY. LOL

I'M REQUESTING HELP IN NAMING THIS BABY, I CALL IT ROWDY DUE TO THE FACT IT KICKED AND MOVED ALOT WHILE IN TAN. KEPT HER WORE OUT!!! LOL.
SO ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT!!!!:
