Talking Newbie

Hello everyone! I am a 25 year old female. I have been riding for 22 years, competed in western, hunter (flat), and halter for 10 years, trained (unprofessionally) for 10 years, and have given riding lessons to 2 teens (brought one from just starting out, to winning several rodeo queen competitions) for 2 years.

I lost my 12 year old QH mare, unexpectedly, late last year due to a ruptured colon It was devastating. I am now looking for my next horse... going to look at a couple of rescues this week I can't wait! I am planning to start jumping after I find my next "best friend."

If anyone has any advice for me on getting started in the jumper field, or in adopting rescues, please let me know! Thanks so much!

-Melissa

P.S. It is nice to meet all of you!

Hello and welcome!! Glad you joined us, I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I have been there too with a filly who had a twisted intestine. It's never fun.

But horse-shopping is! Good luck with your search and let us know when you find one.

My advice in Jumping: Make sure you at least try out a little Cross country lol !!

Welcome to HCC!! I think if your getting
a rescue horse, you should see how his/her
background is (if possible).. So you would know
how to handle your new horse I don't know..
In my opinion I think it's important. As for
jumping? I have no idea :P I guess... Don't
push your new friend too hard

I hope you enjoy HCC!
