Default Newby!

Hi To All! First time here. Dad, 4 kids. Marine 72-76. No. Colo.

Originally from Okla. Moved to No. Colo. in 92.

2 Daughters at home, !5 yr. old Olympic Development Soccer Chic...

12 yr. old...is how I got here, LOL

Went over to a old time friend and longtime listener to my radioshow to discuss current events at his stables, walked into the stall area, started talking for a while.

All of a sudden I was missing Makenzy...Turned around, looked down the ailse, and there was Makenzy...Eyes locked onto a 2 yr. old Really Nice looking Bay filly. She was slowly rubbing her nose, as if in a trance...

I turned and looked at my friend, He looked at me, and said, "You're So Screwed"...LOL

It was love at first site...I had horses for yrs. in OK., My best friend was an outfitter in New Mexico, helped guide hunts for about 15 yrs.

Came here to flyfish, but fate got me back into the horse world.

So not having been around a green rider in about 15 yrs., thought I better find a place to ask questions...

See ya inside...

Good to be here..Horses are getting CHEAP here in No. Colo. Sad really...I just got a really nice 12yr. old Sorrel gelding from a close neighbor. 200 with all the tack... Hasn't been ridin' in 5 yrs. Took my time...With some apple slices, to say hello. very calm and nice. Haltered up, and just walked around for a while and "visited". Saddled up really easy. walked arond for a while more...Got his snaffle in,..Walked around some more.

My daughter watching everything...Said "here we go", Easy up on the saddle...walked around as he wanted, kinda, kept a littlr pressure as we walked.

All went well with first day...I didn't get launched! He was just a little bit nervous, new people, new smells, some "stuff" he hadn't had on him in 5 yrs.

I'm callin' it a success!

Later as the "Saga" unfolds...

I Hope You Are All Well'

Yours In Freedom,

Paul

Hey, I guess you lucked out - 200 bucks for all and it seems to works.

But: As you say, this is really sad. I am breeding Morgans and used to make kind of a living out of it. Training horses, too. There are a lot of people like me and every time someone picks up a horse for 200 bucks we just inch a little closer to being broke.

I hope you are aware that this guy will cost you about 100 bucks a month. Buying is the cheap part. Feed and the vet is what is going to bite you.

But good luck anyhow - your daughter will love you.

Yes it is tuff, have a friend up here that is a Trainer in Cutting , also as a World Champ himself. Saw him last week and he kinda jokingly said "I may have to join the military...".

Wife is just getting outa vet school residency. His clients largely were in the construction business and the type. Business stopped like you turned off a light switch.

Crazy...
