Default Hey Y'all

Hello everyone, I've decided to pursue a career as a farrier and I've been sorting through all of the farrier schools. There are MANY and most of them seem to say the same thing. I'm suffering from information overload! I've narrowed my choices down to about 5 or 6. Can anyone out there steer me in the right direction? Maybe recommend one or two? Thanks.

Greg

Greg Hi,
Good for you.
There is a desparate need for GOOD Farriers.
Where you go depends on whether or not you can travel or need to stay close to home.
The only place I would recommend is;
http://butlerprofessionalfarrierschool.com/

Although I think apprenticeship is almost more important than the actual school itself.
And 5/6 yrs of good apprenticeship, following all disciplines and breeds, I also recommend learning true Farrier work which intales alot of anatomy/physiology and not what ever the latest fad is.

You will be very interested in this site: Pete Ramey hoof care heals founder in horse’s navicular disease farrier

I apprenticed with my Dad (farrier) for 4 years and apprenticed with a Barefoot/Natural Trimmer (some shoeing, mostly this type of barefoot trim) for almost 2 years. In Hoofrehab, Pete Ramey shows tons of photos and tons of his own studies and hoof work. Read some of his articles, I really get into it. I think he offers a reasonable seminar also (not a college, but just some more information for you) also has books and DVDs in simple easy-to-understand format.

I shoe also, but mostly barefoot trim. One tip I can offer- Have an OPEN MIND for hoof science and different specialist's teachings. It's saved more than one of my own horses hooves in the past. More information is always coming to the surface! Good luck!!!!
