Default Illinoisian Hello!

Hey there, folks! My name is Carrie and I live in East-Central Illinois (about 20 minutes from the Indiana border). I'm an artist (mainly drawing animal portraits) by both traditional (on paper) and digital (computer generated) means. I work at Thunder Wolf Trail Rides, currently homed in Covington, IN for our indoor riding arena. We're otherwise at Kickapoo State Park in Oakwood, IL.

To my dismay I don't legally own any horses; but I'm an "owner" of sorts at Thunder Wolf. I care and handle all of our 24 horses. Two of my favorites are two sorrel Quarter Horses (one a mare, the other a gelding) -- Creampuff and Ben Red Dee. And while I have my favorites all of the horses have a special place in my life.

I have one dog, a mutt named Goldie (aka "Red"), and two cats, named Candied Scotch and her brother Velcro. I've always been an animal lover and I've had a large series of animals throughout my life, ranging from basic house pets like cats, dogs, and fish all the way up to scorpions, tarantulas, and turtles. Before I was born, my family had horses. I never got to savor such a gift.

I love reading and learning, and then teaching what I read. I read a lot of Monty Roberts and other educational books.

My ultimate goal is to start an Equestrian Rescue in Indiana/Illinois, or to even have my own AQH breeding farm, where I will also show with my stock. All of this is years away, but worth the fight to get there.

Welcome to you both!! Ceampuff (love the name) I used to run a small equine rescue. Moved and married now, but I hope to start again soon after we build our house. So it sounds like we will get along great! :P

I'm also an AQHA lover myself! I bred and trained/showed aqha's and apha's in the past as well as Friesian sporthorses, but I have decided to cut back due to the economy and the horse market. There are just too many unwanted and uncared for horses out there that I would rather take one of those in than bring another one into the world. For now anyway, we will see what the future holds.

Tell me more about where you work, what you do there. (I tend to be a bit nosey at times) -post pictures of your favorite horses, and your cats if you like. The name Velcro I think is just wonderful for a cat

Hope you enjoy the forum, talk to you soon ~

Hi,
Glad you found Us.
Sounds like a nice life-don't worry about the not owning part-once you own they OWN you.
Last vacation 1996

AQHA and I are usually on the same page- the rescue & breeding thing-really a conflict of interest. Please don't breed.

Welcome to HCC! I suppose I am the resident oddball since I ride and work with gaited horses,, specifically Rocky/Kentucky Mountain Horses. I own a 5 yr old bay gelding, and work with 11 others. Glad to have you!
