Default hello everyone

Hi, I'm new here. My name is kate and i'm from scotland (where it's quite cold at present). I'm 33 soon to be 34. I'm a freelance instructor and i ride and train horses. My main interest is classical dressage but i do like to jump on occasion. I like to read and study and i draw the occasional picture. I'm looking forward to meeting new people and learning from others. Hello everyone..

Hello and welcome! Glad you could join us, hope to hear more from you. I previously bred American Quarters and American Paint horses but we have a market droop here in the equine industry and I'm holding off on the breeding! Would rather take in an unwanted one or two for the moment until it possibly picks up again.

What type of horses do you ride/ give lessons with?

Again - welcome

Thanks for the warm welcome. I had a friend who imported a QH from america. He turned out to be a successful event horse despite his size. He was only 15hh but was very brave and jumped some big tracks. He was a brilliant little horse.

I spent a few years riding and training thoroughbreds and irish horses. I had a beautiful horse staying with me who i rode and trained for the owner who lived abroad. He has just left me to start his eventing career so it will be interesting to see how he gets on. At present i am horseless but i'm going to look at a warmblood on wed .... fingers crossed. I would love to own a lusitano but iberian horses are so expensive. For now, it will just have to remain a dream. I teach clients on there own horses. They are a bit of a mixed bunch of breeds but all very lovely.

What about you? How many horses do you have? What disciplines are you interested in? Do you teach? Looking forward to learning more.

Hi, Glad your here.

Kinda funny, how no matter where we are seems like the concept of "the grass is always greener on the other side" holds true.
We Americans tend to take the Quarter Horse for granted and sometimes overlook a wonderful horse for something which is suppose to be better-like the Imported Irish Draught.
Maybe it's not just Us-so glad your friend had success with her QH.

Kate, if you think a 15hh American Quarter can be a decent eventer you should try our 16-17hh Quarter horses! I love the breed for it's versatility. There are so many options. You can buy HUGE and heavy 15-16hh Halter horses, little 14hh Quarter ponies for kiddos, 15hh athletic barrel racers, reiners, cutters... or 16-17hh Hunters and jumpers. Every one can be a different size, shape and style and I've never found a bad one. They are also mostly a 'No-nonsense' breed, when you're ready to work, they are hard at it. No funny stuff.

Currently I own between 5-8 (that always changes because I am always looking for a good steal, or selling one). But when the market was booming we had between 20-25 head! Boy what chaos but I loved every minute of it which was usually spent feeding everyone HA

Since both of my parents came from Western backgrounds (Mom competed, Dad owned a boarding farm and Appaloosa stud service) I naturally will always love western riding in general. I competed in western speed events for 5 years, and later drifted towards eventing for a few years as well. I am certified level II CHA but not far from passing III test. I used to give lessons to a handful of local girls. For now all I am doing is simply pleasure riding, with a few young 2 and 3yo projects (some American Paints and QHs)
Previously bred and raised Paints, Quarters and Friesian Sporthorses, but I'm now just waiting to see how the economy here is headed. As it is, the horse market is in the pits. And I'd much rather take in an unwanted or neglected horse than bring another into the world...

I would Love to see a 17hh QH ... didn't know such giants existed. Perhaps it's the scottish weather that stunts their growth as i've never met a QH over 15hh. Also, interested to hear that irish draughts are popular stateside..... it is funny how we all perceive breeds differently. To one person a certain breed is exotic and to another it's standard ..... interesting !!
