I got started on this horse journey when I was nine years old and my parents stupidly bought me a BLM mustang yearling. 26 years later, I still have her and she's traveled all over the country with me. Her name is Liberty. I've had horses come and go but she's always stayed. When I was just a little girl, I whispered in her ear that I would never sell her and someday my kids would learn to ride on her. I have three boys now (2 yrs, 3 yrs and 6 yrs old) and just went and bought them their first helmet today. Libby is a rock-solid horse that I know inside and out....well enough to know that you never ask her to go faster than a walk and she'll be the best horse in the world. You can lunge the heck out of her, she's been in dressage shows, taught many 4-Hers how to ride, how to clean hooves, how to bridle, been hunted off of, jumped, trail ridden all over creation. I love her to death.
And I've got her a companion, an older Appy gelding that just hangs out with her.
I guess I'm more of a wimp now that I have kids. I'm a single mom and fully support my kids. I can't afford serious injuries. So I won't be training again, I won't be riding much...but I do love teaching and love working with kids.
I don't know how much I'll be posting but this new gelding I've got was abused and has some vision loss so I'm struggling with his feet right now. I posted about it in the trainer forum.
