Default A long greeting..

Hello! I am new to riding in my young adult life, I've been taking lessons consistently for about a year now. I'm a novice rider, still have to get my canter down before I may be considered intermediate I guess. I'm getting it though, my instructor found a horse that fits my height and it is going much smoother.

Currently in my lessons I am working on jumping. Highest I've done so far is about 2'3" on a 16.2hh foundation Appaloosa gelding. I'm working on jumping, cantering, and improving my two point in lessons.

In the spring I hope to be efficient enough to begin showing. I have plans to get my dressage tests done this year. :thumbs up: And maybe have enough confidence to compete in jumping! We shall see.

I wouldn't know how to describe my style other than fluid. I'm almost always game. I love riding greenies because they keep me on my toes and they make me a better rider. I will hop on a horse of any size or stature from 12hh ponies to 17hh hunter jumpers. I ride bareback, english, or western depending on my mood or circumstance. I've used australian saddles, dressage saddles, european styled jumping saddles, all purpose saddles, and a couple western saddles here and there, vaulting surcingles, etc.

My favorite saddle is a dressage saddle. I own an older Passier Hannover dressage saddle and it is my pride and joy. Someone once told me that the staple of a good rider is to be able to jump well in a dressage saddle, and I whole heartedly agree with that. I want to be a good enough equestrian that I don't need extra pads, grips, tools, and gimmicks to keep me in a saddle and auto correct my seat. I very much enjoy a minimal close contact saddle, and like to go stirrupless on occasion.

I favor horses bred for war, so Andalusians, Lippizans, Percherons, etc. Although after some experience, I find my favorite breed to be Tennessee Walking Horses. I look forward to experiencing TWH dressage, and maybe owning one of my own someday. I have jumped a Walker before. It was quite goofy, he paced up to it and jumped over the fence with one foot trailing behind him. Very goofy, but I loved it.

I'm a bit of a book worm. I enjoy research, especially when it pertains to horses. I have particular interest in coat color genetics and biomechanics. I am particularly new to biomechanics, but a quick experiment on a Walker the other day lent me a very successful 20 meter circle, which I have been having difficulty with. It was awesome, he flexed beautifully for me, and I hope to delve into such a topic and others like it further to have a better understanding to improve my form and that of any horse I ride.

Very long winded, very sorry, but hello! :excited wave: Cookies to anyone who read this all the way through hahaha.
