Talking Hello from Arkansas!

My name is Barbara and I currently live in Little Rock, Arkansas. I gew up in San Diego, CA though, just moved out here 7 years ago. I have a 9yr old daughter and an equally horse crazy fiance. We have two horses boarded about 30-40 minutes from our house, a 10yr old Appaloosa mare (mine) and a 9yr old Anglo Arabian gelding (his). I am a college instructor in the computer (IT) department of Pulaski Technical College (I teach computer basics and web/graphic design and web programming).

We ride just for fun right now, but I have shown Dressage and open show Hunters and Jumpers in the past. I have done some fun shows in different western events, and would like to eventually show my mare in Trail, western riding, barrels, and maybe some cow events (she LOVES to herd and chase things, lol). I'm also going to show her in ApHC hunter o/f and u/s classes. My daughter is going to show her this season in W/T HUS at some fun schooling shows. My mare LOVES to jump! If we can ever get a handle on the Anglo, we plan on showing him endurance, dressage, eventing, show hack, and reining. He's sweepstakes nominated.

I have been riding since I was 13 years old under many trainers (some great, some not so great, lol). I have trained a few horses myself, and re-trained quite a few others. I have worked with a lot of different breeds including Arabians, TBs, warmbloods, stock breeds, draft crosses, a few ponies, Mustangs (Kiger and BLM), a coupe gaited horses, and a few mutts! I do not aspire to be a trainer though. I just like helping out friends and training my own.

Here is a picture of our two horses being free lunged in our turn out pasture before a ride. My Appy mare is the one in the lead (yes, she does have a few spots if you look close enough, LOL!).

I have a personal web site at http://www.barbarasdomain.com if you'd like to see more pictures!

Anyhow, I look forward to "meeting" everyone! I also enjoy color genetics and can give you pretty good foal outcome percentages. Yes, I am a Geek, LOL! I LOVE MATH!

Hi Barbara,

Welcome to the forum. I was born and raised and still live in San Diego. I currently live in the east end of Mission Valley not far from SDSU. When I was a kid (probably before your time judging by the age of your daughter) we had horses in Sorrento Valley. It was just before 805 went right through the property and then they started building in what used to be our 600 acre pasture!

Where did you have your horses? Where did you ride?

One of my best friends moved to Little Rock, Arkansas (actually she's in Austen now) just a few years ago. She works for the state.

Small world, huh? Glad to have you here, love the pics!

Thank you both for the warm welcome!

I lived in the north part of the county, Oceanside/San Marcos areas. I went to school at Fallbrook high school. I boarded at a variety of places in Escondido, San Marcos, Vista and Bonsall. I leased horses for a while, so I had to go to them, lol. When I had my own, I boarded at a small private place called Fran-Lin Arabians in Vista, and a place in Escondido that I can't remember the name of. It was off the back road from Escondido to Rancho Sante Fe/Del mar. It was a trail riding/pleasure barn that did guided trail rides too.

Hmm, I don't ever remember 805 not being there, lol. I graduated high school in '97, so I'm young, but at least I'm finally leaving my 20's! I really have not enjoyed them much, lol.
