mules and cows
Thanks to those who responded, took your advice and my mule is now 5 mos old and like a big baby, cant get rid of her!I just sent her mom to the trainer, a farrier told me to get her a companion while the mom was gone, he suggested a goat. I did not get a goat for a lot of resons, but I did have access to a calf,so she now has a calf friend"('or at least I hope'")she doesnt seem to get along well with the calf, I was hoping they just needed to get to know each other, but I was talking to a friend who knows quite a bit and he says that mules and cattle do not get along well and that the mule could possibly kill my bull calf, any one with any knowledge of this, your info would be greatly appreciated, I hate to leave my mule by herself but this may be the best thing, what do you think?

Mules are by nature very terrotorial (sp?) over their space so unless you introduce her to a new companion in an area unfamiliar to her (another pasture, new stall, etc) you are going to have this problem with every animal you put in her pasture. And, yes, with time this behavior could escalate to the point where she accidently kills whatever is in the pasture with her, especially if the other animal is a baby that cant runaway fast enough or fight back. However,
unless your mule is phyiscally aggressive to your bull all of the time i dont think she is going to kill it any time soon.if she was, she would have already.
May I ask though, why are you so anxious to have a companion for your mule? Is she nervous by herself (paces, runs, whinnies all day, etc)? If not, a little time by herself is NOT a bad thing. Afterall, you dont want her to grow up and dependant on a herd or companion on the trail/ show ring do you? If you are set on getting her a companion, consider a full grown animal, something that she cant push around as easily. You may want to consider a pig. They are surprisingly easy keepers and dont like being pushed around.
